Let me introduce myself…
My name is Kayla Carrillo, MOT, OTR/L, PCES, I earned my Master of Occupational Therapy Degree from Rockhurst University in 2012. Prior to attending Rockhurst, I worked as a licensed physical therapist assistant for 6 years which fostered my love of orthopedics. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. We try to visit at least one new National Park each year and hope to visit them all one day. I also enjoy listening to audio books, running and dessert (thus the need for the running).
As an OT I have worked with all types of patient populations and various diagnoses. It wasn’t until after having my own children, that I started to explore the specialty of pelvic health. I personally dealt with many issues from managing the recovery from c-sections, experiencing postpartum depression, and trying to navigate how to return to exercise while balancing a career and children. These issues are especially difficult when you are unsure of where to start or what the safest methods are to getting back to “your normal.” As I navigated this path, I often felt like there should be an easier way. I was blessed with supportive friends and practitioners who helped me along the way. After navigating my own journey, it motivated me to pursue more continuing education opportunities to learn about pelvic health. I found I was completely enthralled with all things pelvic health. The more classes I attended or articles I read made me realize how many opportunities there are to help women reclaim their lives. I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to impact women’s lives, so they can get back to engaging in all the meaningful activities that bring them enjoyment. I look forward to serving the women in our community and I’m always happy to answer any questions that you may have to determine if pelvic floor OT is right for you and your needs.
